Joan's Story
Originally from Whittier, I graduated from Lowell High School in 1971. Following high school, I attended and graduated from the University of Southern California (home of the Trojans) with a degree in Business/Marketing. My first employer was Buffum's department store (betting some of you will remember that name/store) where I was in the marketing training program and worked in several buying offices. In 1977, I moved to Houston and got married in November of that same year (after dating my husband for 5 years). While in Houston, I worked for Saks Fifth Avenue, Bayland Publishing (creator of the Home/Garden magazine concept), and Cordovan (Scripps/Howard) Publishing (creator of the Business Journal concept). I am the proud mother of 2 sons, both native Texans. Ryan, the youngest and a graduate of the U of A, got married in October of 2012 to a beautiful and loving woman named Tracy. whom we like very much. Ryan owns a company called STUNglasses and Christopher works for Argosy University. We moved to Phoenix in 1983 (when Ryan was 6 months old) and currently live in a historical co-op located downtown, next door to the Heard Museum. I was a stay-at-home mom for several years and then became heavily involved with the school where Ryan and Christopher attended middle school. Long story short --- I became Associate Director of 2 successful charter schools and retired from the schools about 2 years ago. Since that time, we have lived in Central America, remodeled a home in Durango, Colorado, and I have started a new business. I am currently looking for dynamic individuals around the country to help with my business expansion. Would love to reconnect with some of my HS classmates and chat about the possibilities.
